Today I went to the preview of Littlehampton Museum's annual open art show. This year the theme is "Fire and Ice," which can be interpreted quite freely. The exhibits cover a mixture of painting, knitting, felting, collage, sculpture and photography. It is very interesting to see how each individual artist has approached the subject and how the different works complement each other.
I submitted two photographs, based on the idea of weather - with a sunset representing fire and a snowscene representing ice. It's the first time I have ever attended this type of event and I was heartened to find how welcoming and friendly everyone was. I certainly hope to enter next year's event and am looking forward to discovering what the chosen topic will be.
This year's exhibition runs from today until 24th December and can be seen in Littlehampton Museum, Church Street, Littlehampton. Further details can be found on their website.
The Museum is housed in the old town council building, which itself is Grade II listed. Other exhibits tell the history of the port of Littlehampton and surrounding district, from prehistory to modern times. Although the Museum is not large, it does include a fascinating variety of displays, including the Climping horde of gold coins.
