Summer Holidays

I discovered when we returned from our holiday to Scotland, that there was insufficient space left in my computer's memory to download my photos. I know that is partly my own fault, as I tend to get carried away and take several hundred photos during the space of a week. The real problem this time, was with the way the computer was set to save backups. However, I am pleased to say it has now been resolved.

One of the trips we made whilst we were in Scotland was to the Isle of Arran, which included a visit to Brodick Castle. Yes, it is rather a busman's holiday, as I work at Arundel Castle, but every castle has its own unique history and character, so I never tire of experienced a new one.

Brodick Castle was formerly the home of the Dukes of Hamilton, but is now in the ownership of the National Trust for Scotland. Inside there are fine collections of art and furniture and an interesting collection of silver. Outside the gardens fall away to the sea, with views across the Firth of Clyde, back to the mainland.

If you are there in late spring/early summer the gardens boast a national collection of rhododendrons. We didn't visit at the right to time to see their full glory, but the following photos give a glimpse of their beauty.
